Revealing Munnings: the restoration

The restoration of the fourteen Sir Alfred Munnings drawings is well under way at the Museum Conservation Services (MCS).

This specialist process includes removing the works from the acidic mounts and then sensitively cleaning each individual drawing. Our East GalleryNUA Assistant Curator, Claire Allerton visited the paintings in November 2018 to view progress of this intricate process.

Once the paintings have been fully restored, NUA will be exhibiting the magnificent works in EastGalleryNUA to coincide with the 60th anniversary of Munnings’ death. The exhibition will include early paintings from the NUA collection and loans from other institutions such as the Munnings Museum in Dedham, Essex.
