Three graphics graduates awarded YCN Commendation for HMV rebrand
Recent graduates Ryan Hayes, Jess Edwards and Tyler Pearce from BA (Hons) Graphic Design have won a YCN New Now Commendation for their rebrand of music and film store HMV. Each year, YCN launch a series of creative briefs for final year students to respond to through their creative specialism. The briefs enable organisations around the world to collaborate and explore fresh creative talent.
BA Graphic Design graduates Ryan Hayes, Jess Edwards and Tyler Pearce collaborated on a brief reimagining HMV’s branding.
The way that users consume media, music and film has changed, so YCN tasked students to rebrand HMV for it to appeal to a new generation. Firstly, the students redesigned HMV’s logo.
Ryan, Jess and Tyler also designed material such as carrier bags, magazines and gift cards.
An additional part of the brief was to create a design for the ‘Nipper Lounge’, named after the famous HMV dog. The lounge is a private booth in store for customers to enjoy music and magazines.
Their response to the brief celebrates physical products such as collectables and vinyl, and is inspired by autographs. Ryan, Jess and Tyler also wanted to draw attention to the value of collecting and owning.
