An introduction to NUA
Delivered by the Student Recruitment and Outreach team.
Susan Coles Workshop
Susan Coles discusses ways to try and keep students engaged alongside maintaining your own motivation and wellbeing.
Sculpture Matters Workshop
Led by Desmond Brett, Senior Lecturer in BA Fine Art (Sculpture), this session is designed for educators to consider fundamental 3D techniques through the exploration of materials and processes associated with sculptural practice. The first 100 UK-based participants to sign up will be sent materials in advance of the session and are encouraged to be experimental with material through handling, playing and testing in order to develop an understanding of how sculpture can be applied across diverse contexts, applications and audiences.
International Student Panel Q&A
This session is for international educators and counsellors. A panel of international students will answer your burning questions about their experiences studying and living in the UK. What is it like settling in? How is the study experience different? How are students supported? What is the city like? Where do students live? Join us for this live Q&A and get answers direct from students. Session will include an introduction by International Officer, Rois Deegan.
Character Design Workshop
Led by Jon Dunleavy, Lecturer in BA Animation, you will explore the full range of processes to underpin and inform good character design, with a view to creating a character cast and how they work within a narrative. This session informs character design not only for animation but also other mediums such as illustration, sculpture and games design.
Brand Advertising Workshop
Join Martin Schooley, Course Leader for our four Graphics courses and Jamie Johnstone, Lecture in Graphics, for an overview of the differences between these courses at NUA. Martin and Jamie will then invite participants to produce visual ideas, including copywriting, for a brand advert in this quickfire and interactive session.
Fashion forms: The relationship between 2D and 3D
Using the basic bodice block as a foundation, this session will encourage participants to challenge their own perception of the 3D form by using shapes as a tool to explore design details and develop creative silhouettes. Connecting/combining 2D and 3D idea generation supports the visualisation of design ideas and often inspires further idea development.
Interior Design ‘Chance Chair’ Workshop
Led by Benjamin Salter, Course Leader for BA Interior Design, this workshop aims to encourage ‘creative confidence’ by exploring design metaphors. Original and unique designs will be generated without the need for research, based purely on your individual experience and interpretation of form and colour. Participants will produce developmental drawings to realise their ideas within this session.
Telling Tales: Where stories come from and how they work
This workshop looks at the origin of the stories we tell. Prior to the workshop we would like participants to submit a 60-second story based on their experience of being in lockdown (not compulsory). Faced with the same restrictions you might expect our creative responses to be similar. But the opposite is true: we adapt our shared experiences into very different stories. A similarity of experience serves to highlight our differences: because stories come not from events but from our interpretation of those events. The workshop will end by looking at a few simple patterns and conventions which can help to make all our stories just a little bit more Steven Spielberg!
UX Design Workshop
An introduction to the BSc User Experience Design course by Course Leader Martin Schooley, followed by a highly interactive exploration of user experience across e-commerce websites.
Fashion Marketing & Business Industry Post-Covid
Talk and Q+A: Led by Alexandra Hill, Course Leader for BA Fashion Communication and Promotion and BA Fashion Marketing and Business, this session will address the key changes to the Fashion Marketing and Business industry post-Covid, providing you with an awareness of the changes and shifts that could impact your teaching.
