Callum Spinks

Callum has worked at the university since late 2022. He is one of four staff members that run and operate the Media Resource Centre at Norwich.

Callum is responsible for AV equipment loans to staff and students, whether it be equipment for taught sessions, assessed student projects, or personal passion projects. He has a background in sound and music production and is the MRC’s resident sound specialist. He often runs inductions for students on the operation of the various sound equipment available at the MRC. In his short time at the university, Callum has also been involved in and assisted with the construction of the university’s 360-degree immersive screen.

I have a BA in Audio Production from the University of Lincoln, which I graduated from in 2019. I have studied and practiced multiple forms of audio production, including radio, sound for moving image, and my specialism, music production. I have been a broadcast assistant, produced and presented live on local radio while living in Lincoln. Since I was a student, I have worked as freelance producer and mix engineer and have helped to record, mix, and master the work of a selection of artists in the Norwich and Lincoln areas. I am also a self-producer, having worked on my own band’s music and my own solo work, some of which has been put out live on BBC Introducing. I have a released a handful of EPs and singles across the years. I am always pushing and experimenting with new ideas to push my boundaries and really enjoy helping others to achieve the ideas in their heads, as well as my own.

In 2020 I joined City College Norwich as a student support assistant. In this role I predominantly helped students within Media and Technical Theatre Production classes, as well as assisting with productions at the college’s own Platform Theatre. Since 2022 I have been working at Norwich University of the Arts as a technician in the Media Resource Centre. I really enjoy assisting the staff and students of Norwich with all their AV equipment needs. It is a fantastic environment and it’s an amazing challenge getting to learn, operate and teach the astounding variety of kit we have available here.
