Christian Petersen

Christian Petersen is a lecturer on the BA (Hons) Illustration course.

Having worked in visual communication and design prototyping, he is a practitioner with a hybrid profile. Christian has published graphic novels and made architectural models for Adjaye Associates and Foster + Partners, among others.

Projects I get involved in are often collaborative and transdisciplinary. Teaching at NUA, this has translated into me organising and delivering live, collaborative projects with the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies. Here our illustration students — through practice — reflected on climate futures and what the illustration industry might look like in the coming two decades.

In addition to a degree in graphic design from Central St. Martins, UAL, and a combined graphics and illustration MFA from Konstfack, Sweden, Christian has been awarded fellowships from the RSA, and AdvanceHE.

Research

My research interests include practice-based research, ethnographic method, and design fiction. A recent research outcome was the paper De-signing Ambiguity (Dyer & Petersen, 2021). These interests are being brought together in a PhD pursued at the University of Huddersfield.
