Christian Petersen

Christian Petersen is a lecturer on the BA (Hons) Illustration course

I am a graphic novelist interested in how narrative and image making can reshape our thinking about ecology and our environment. My graphic novels have been recognised for their design and awarded the Karen Blixen award, selected as one of Denmark’s most beautiful books, and been picked as a European Design Award finalist.

Teaching at Norwich University of the Arts, working with these themes has translated into me organising and delivering live, collaborative projects with the futurists at Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies, and the climate advocates at the It’s Freezing in LA! magazine. As part of these collaborations our illustration students — through visual storytelling and image making — reflect on climate futures and what a contemporary illustration practice looks like.

My research focuses on how the visual communication designer can adapt their practices to better address the social and environment challenges we face as a society.

Research

My research interests include practice-based method, ethnographic method, critical design, and design prototyping.

I am studying towards a doctoral degree at the university.
