James Burkill

You can find James working around all areas of the workshop, he particularly enjoys a mash-up of materials and processes to achieve exciting outcomes!

After studying Design and Architecture in York and Leeds, I spent some time working in industry as a Graphic Designer for the bar and club sector, followed by several years working as an Architectural Assistant, working on the design and construction of residential and retail developments. This was before pursuing a passion to work in arts education.

After several years spent working at other FE and HE institutions, I landed my current role here at Norwich. I love the variety of courses, and ideas the students have at Norwich, where everyday a new challenge unfolds, and I cannot wait to unpick another exciting design concept and help convert it into reality! I enjoy working on projects that use my creative background in model making and I am particularly partial to an architectural/interior model, product prototype and foam-based sculpture.

With extensive specialist experience in digital manufacturing methods, including laser cutting, CNC, and 3D printing, and their associated software, I continue to explore the possibilities that can be formed through a combination of this and the more traditional workshop facilities available at Norwich University of the Arts.
