QUEERiosity

4.30pm – 7pm Monday 13 October 2025 – Saturday 13 December 2025

Explore queerness and LGBTQ+ identities through practical workshops, before showcasing your final piece in an online showcase.

Take part in practical workshops covering different areas; including fine art, character design, graphic communication, film & photography, and fashion & textiles. These online sessions will highlight LGBTQ+ artists working within those areas and allow participants to develop their own creative practice.

After the workshop sessions, you’ll have time to develop a final piece which can be submitted to us to be displayed in the QUEERiosity online showcase. There’ll be an optional drop-in session where you can receive feedback and guidance on your final piece before submitting it to us.

Upcoming Sessions

Week 1 – Fine Art

Monday 13 October | 4:30pm – 6:00pm (BST)

For the first QUEERiosity session, you’ll be introduced to the aims of the project before looking at how fine art can be used to explore LGBTQ+ themes.

We’ll look at the works of queer artists, as well as student work, before taking on practical tasks that will let you explore themes resonant to you through fine art practices.

Materials Required: A3 and A4 paper, pencils, colouring pencils

Optional Materials: Charcoal, fine liners, coloured card, plasticine, tracing paper

Week 2 – Character Design

Monday 20 October | 4:30pm – 6:00pm (BST)

In the second QUEERiosity workshop, you’ll go through the principles of character design before designing your own characters.

By looking at LGBTQ+ characters created across animation, games and illustration, you’ll be able to create a character used to explore queer narratives and themes.

Materials Required: A3 and A4 paper, pencils, colouring pencils, or digital drawing software and hardware.

Week 3 – Graphic Communication

Monday 3 November | 4:30pm – 6:00pm (BST)

In this QUEERiosity workshop, we’ll explore visual storytelling and how it can be used to get across themes and messages to audiences worldwide.

After looking at brand campaigns highlighting queer topics and issues, you’ll create your own campaign exploring a theme close to you, using industry processes.

Materials Required: A3 and A4 paper, pencils, colouring pencils, or digital drawing software and hardware.

Week 4 – Film & Photography

Monday 10 November | 4:30pm – 6:00pm (BST)

For the fourth QUEERiosity workshop, we’ll be diving into film and photography best practices and how they can be used to explore queer themes.

You’ll see examples of queer cinema and LGBTQ+ photography, before using these mediums to create your own narratives through practical tasks.

Materials Required: A3 and A4 paper, pencils, colouring pencils, or digital drawing software and hardware; camera or mobile device that can take videos/photos.

Week 5 – Fashion & Textiles

Monday 17 November | 4:30pm – 6:00pm (BST)

In our final QUEERiosity workshop, we’ll be exploring how fashion and textile designers in the LGBTQ+ community utilise best practices to create work highlighting queer themes.

You’ll then take on these best practices and devise your own fashion and textile pieces with LGBTQ+ themes in mind.

Materials Required: A3 and A4 paper, fabric scraps, pencils, colouring pencils, fine liners, coloured card, glue stick, masking tape, (all will need to provide a bottle to make garment), needle and thread, tracing paper

Optional Drop-Ins

Monday 1 December | 4:30pm – 7:00pm (BST)

Book a slot to receive feedback on your final piece, whether you’re still in the early stages of creating it or are finalising details.
