Dr Philip Archer
Phil looks after the University’s sound rooms in Bank Plain including the Dolby Atmos Studio, Vocal Booth, Surround Studio and Live Room. These are specialist resources for sound recording, editing and mixing using Pro Tools software and are particularly suitable for creating sound for moving image work and material for spatial sound installations.
I specialise in music composition, sound design, and audio post-production. I have created soundtracks for award-winning dramas, documentaries and animations, and have had music featured in shows on Netflix, Sky and MTV.
As well as my work for film and TV I have also produced sound design and sonic branding for Google, immersive audio for VR experiences, and created sound performance and installation pieces.
These more experimental projects have involved designing and building my own electronic and acoustic musical instruments including connecting plants to electronic circuitry, making robotic percussionists and creating instruments from deer antlers.
I teach sound across a range of courses at Norwich including Film and Moving Image Production, Animation, and Fine Art, and I also teach Storytelling Through Sound at the London Film School.
