Toby Hills

Toby Hills is an Evening and Saturday Film Production Technician at Norwich University of the Arts

Toby is also a graduate from Norwich University of the Arts with a degree in film and moving image. He specialises in lighting and cinematography. Working as a gaffer in the film industry Toby has gained a huge amount of knowledge and skills for lighting in video production.

Based in the Film studio Toby works on everything from the lighting rig to building sets, fixing kit, and offering advice. With a background in the grip and electrical department Toby is great at offering solutions to rigging problems.

Toby has worked as Best-boy and Gaffer on a large amount of feature films and has also been Director of Photography on a range of short films, music videos, documentaries, and small budget features. Alongside this he is a resident DOP for THATMILK, a production company specialising in live music capture and short form video content.

Toby is always up to chat through ideas, advise on what equipment to use or demonstrate how to pull off a certain camera or lighting technique. He has lots of hands on knowledge with all of the equipment at the university and is always happy to pass that on to students!
