Mature Students
It’s never too late to pursue your passion for education and transform your future. At Norwich, we welcome mature students from all backgrounds and life experiences.
Whether you’re returning to education after years away, seeking to change careers, or fulfilling a lifelong ambition, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
Your Path to Higher Education
Mature students bring unique perspectives and valuable life experience to our university community. Whatever your academic background, we’ll help you find the right pathway to achieve your goals:
- If You Already Hold Qualifications: If you have A-levels, BTECs, or similar qualifications, you may already meet the entry requirements for your chosen course. If you’re unsure, contact our Admissions Team for guidance.
- If You Need Additional Qualifications: Don’t worry if you don’t meet the entry requirements yet. Many mature students take an Access to Higher Education Diploma at local colleges. These one-year courses are widely accepted and designed to prepare you for university-level study.
- Work and Life Experience: Your work and personal experiences can also strengthen your application. Be sure to highlight these in your personal statement or during interviews.
- Flexible Options: Not ready for a full degree program? Explore our range of short courses and part-time options, which can fit around your work or family commitments.
Tailored Support
We understand that mature students often have different needs and priorities. That’s why we’ve designed services to support you at every stage of your journey. Our Admissions Team can provide tailored advice to guide you through entry requirements and application processes.
Financial Support
Studying as a mature student is an investment in your future, and we’re here to help you explore funding options:
- Student Loans: Most mature students are eligible for tuition and maintenance loans through Student Finance England. Specific criteria apply, so check your eligibility on their website.
- Advanced Learner Loan: For Access to Higher Education courses, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. If you progress to a university course, the loan could be written off.
- Additional Discounts: If you’re under 30, take advantage of National Rail’s 16-25 or 26-30 railcards for reduced travel costs.
Accommodation
We know that living arrangements are an important consideration. That’s why we offer flexible options:
- Dedicated Mature Student Housing: Choose from quiet halls of residence or private rentals with other mature or postgraduate students.
- Family-Friendly Housing: We also offer accommodations suitable for couples and families.
- Flexible Tenancies: Postgraduate and mature student accommodations are available with longer lease options, allowing you to stay on campus during the summer if needed.
