Our MA in Design focuses on educational strategies that improve your understanding of design and its relationships with companies and the professional industry. Our course is exclusively online and focuses on three main fields of practice: communication design, interactive design and product design.
What you’ll learn
LSDM’s students will adopt a reflexive, analytical and evaluative approach to design, achieving a greater understanding of the dynamic relationships between design, the industry and the commercial sector. Our study plan absorbs reality, providing advanced, specialised, artistic, academic and entrepreneurial knowledge, which will allow students to pursue an established career in the future.
Expert teaching staff
Our teaching staff are composed of qualified, experienced teachers who are experts in their field. Besides holding a Doctorate level academic degree, they have well-established professional careers, bringing together their academic expertise and knowledge of the job market.
Personalised support
LSDM’s students are supervised on a weekly basis through a Tutor Centre composed of a team of specialised tutors in Design, with Master’s degrees and several years of proven experience. Our Tutor Centre is also available in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Course Details
Our MA in Design is 100% online, designed for learning in accordance with our students’ availability, without a fixed timetable. In other words, LSDM’s students can define when or where they can access our contents. Only the final assignments and specific presentations will be scheduled in a fixed timetable.
Course structure
In about 12 months, you’ll have completed our MA in Design, accredited by the Norwich University of the Arts, one of the top specialized universities in the creative industries in the UK.

Teaching and learning
Teaching and learning methods used in this course:
- Taught in English, Spanish and Portuguese;
- 5 units and a final project;
- The unit’s content is asynchronous and organised by weekly topics;
- 24hr access to the content whenever and wherever you want;
- Our Tutor Centre functions as a support and interaction tool for our students;
- Online resources (such as lectures, seminars and discussions, tutorials and feedback sessions, forums, online discussion groups and practical exercises).

Flexible learning
LSDM units offer weekly contents in multiple learning formats, allowing you to learn at your own style and rhythm. Weekly contents are available in 3 languages: English, Portuguese and Spanish.

Assessment
According to the units’ learning outcomes, assessment tasks may include exams, case studies, competitions and reports. All reports will be assessed through a plagiarism analysis tool. You will find self-assessment opportunities and feedback to assess your progress.

LSDM Campus Online is an easy-to-use environment. Units provide a clean structure, offering weekly resources and activities, where you can learn and apply new knowledge.

Entry requirements
Candidates can apply for a Master’s Degree in Design through the following pathways:
Via Higher Education
Applicants must have successfully completed a BA Degree – Higher Education (at least 3 years of study) attested by a legally issued certificate. This degree must have been obtained in Design or a closely related area.
Via professional experience
Applicants must be able to demonstrate they have recent and relevant professional experience in the Design industry or a closely related field. You will need to provide a portfolio showcasing your training and projects undertaken. Please contact our Academic Advisors for more information.
Students with special needs
Students with special needs are welcome to apply. A meeting will be arranged with the Student Support Office to discuss what support arrangements LSDM can provide.
Language certificates
For non-native students who wish to attend the course in a different language other than their native language, a recognised certificate of proficiency must be provided:
English
IELTS 6.5. overall with at least 6.0 in each of the four components. Learn more about IELTS.

Spanish
