We are hosting a series of free online workshops, open to all international students looking to study in the UK.

Our aim is to provide you with insights into the various courses we offer, what it’s like to study in our course, and the way we teach.

Be ready to explore a diverse range of creative fields, from architecture to illustration, film to UX design. There’s something for everyone, so don’t miss out. Join us at these free online creative workshops.

Character Design & Turnaround

Thursday 7 November 2024 | 09:00 – 10:30 (GMT)

This Taster Workshop allows you to get a taste of Animation, and how BA Animation is taught at Norwich University of the Arts.

Becca will guide you through the character design process – from idea generation and shape theory, to a turnaround of your character for use in a wide range of industries.

Character design is used across lots of creative fields and industries, from Animation, Gaming, Illustration, Advertising, Branding and Merchandise to Theme parks, Children’s entertainment, book covers, E-learning, Web design and VR.
Rebecca Miller is Head of Animation at Raw Pictures based in Oxfordshire. She concepts, illustrates and animates for a huge variety of clients from local small businesses to companies such as the NHS and Amazon.

What do I need?

  • Digital drawing
    • Digital art program such as Adobe Photoshop, Procreate, Clip Studio Paint, Krita (free) or similar
    • Drawing pen/tablet
  • Traditional drawing
    • Paper
    • Pencil/pen
    • Eraser
    • Ruler (or something to draw straight lines with)

UX/UI design: making the user journey

Thursday 21 November 2024 | 09:00 – 10:30 (GMT)

This Taster Workshop allows you to get a taste of User Experience Design and how the BA User Experience Design is taught at Norwich University of the Arts.

Jose Fernandez is a UX and UI Project Manager at Superside (a worldwide creative service agency) and a graduate of Norwich University of the Arts. He will be guiding you through creating your own UI design for a mobile app. From wireframe to final design. He will guide you through creating the user experience. We’ll also investigate the practicalities of curating design projects.

This workshop will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to the User Experience (UX) journey and teach you the basics of Figma. (Figma is a very popular interface design tool used by many designers.)

What do I need?

  • Please create a free account with Figma
  • Pen and paper: to make sketches of wireframes
  • A smartphone/camera: to take an image of the wireframe from the paper and upload it into Figma.

Creating Your Art Portfolio

The workshop is designed to guide you through the essential steps of building a strong, creative portfolio. We’ll start with a brief introduction to Norwich University of the Arts, followed by an overview of what makes an art portfolio, its basics, and how to structure one effectively. You will also have the chance to see two inspiring portfolio showcases and learn about the finer details that can make your work stand out. We’ll conclude with a Q&A and personalized feedback to help you refine your portfolio and take the next steps in your artistic journey.

VFX: Creating Realism with Digital Composition

This Taster Workshop allows you to get a taste of Animation and Visual Effects and how the BA Animation and Visual Effects is taught at Norwich University of the Arts.
Jose Fernandez is a UX and UI Project Manager at Superside (a worldwide creative service agency) and a graduate of Norwich University of the Arts. He will be guiding you through creating realistic static compositions using digital VFX techniques.
This workshop will enable you to learn photo-realism principles through digital composition and VFX basics.

What do I need?

  • Computer with photo-editing software (Photoshop offers a 7-day free trial)
  • Notebook
  • Pen or pencil
