When it’s gone, it’s gone

10am – 3pm Friday 19 September 2025 – Sunday 21 September 2025

The Shoe Factory Social Club St. Mary’s Works St. Mary’s Plain Norwich, NR3 3AF

‘When it’s gone, it’s gone’ is a multimedia exhibition of co-created artworks that explores the narratives of communities most immediately impacted by severe coastal erosion.

‘When it’s gone, it’s gone’ is a research and engagement-led exhibition developed by Norwich lecturers Matthew Benington, Dr Roter Su and Katy Hammond.

Working across video, sound and alternative photographic process, the artist-researchers have worked with diverse community participant groups to explore the complex intersections of environmental change, lived experience and visual representation.

The exhibition features a range of materials, including dried Marram Grass harvested from Blakeney Point which is a process that encourages the plant’s renewed, healthy growth. It also includes moving image works developed from fieldwork documentation, as well as both collaborative and individually created cyanotypes. These works explore how visual culture can deepen public understanding of ecological loss and foster a sense of community resilience.

Opening times:

Friday 19 – Sunday 21 September, 10am – 3pm

The project has been kindly supported by East Anglia Art Fund.
