On the right, the front cover illustrates a mysterious mansion in the distance, with two figures illuminated in the doorway. Their shadows are reflected down the path, where you can see them holding magnifying glasses and dressed as detectives. At the bottom of the book cover is the title; A Murder Most Unladylike. The spine, in the centre of the image, names the book title. The back cover illustrates an old car parked amongst trees in a forest clearing, with headlights illuminating the ground in front. The blurb and review ratings are overlaid on the illustration, as well as a barcode and Penguin logo.

Third-year BA (Hons) Illustration students are encouraged to submit their work to national competitions, such as the Penguin Cover Design Award. This competition is not exclusive to students, and creatives resident in the UK are eligible to enter. Georgie’s creative practice focuses on children’s storytelling and book illustration.

Her design for the children’s novel ‘Murder Most Unladylike’ is shortlisted in the children’s category.

“As this is just the first book in a series of ten, I chose to focus on environmental design,” said Georgie, “therefore each book in the series is unique to the individual setting of each story while remaining cohesive as a set.”
