Next week will see five leading figures – from the fields of design, fashion, games and the visual arts – awarded Honorary Professorships at Norwich University of the Arts.
Their achievements will be celebrated during the University’s graduation ceremonies, which are taking place at Carrow Road Football Stadium on 14 and 15 July.
An Honorary Professorship is a major accolade, awarded by the University in recognition of outstanding achievement and distinction in a field or activity consonant with its mission.
The five new honorary professors are:
Amrit and Rabindra Kaur Singh
Art and Culture
Amrit and Rabindra Kaur Singh, known professionally as The Singh Twins, are internationally acclaimed artists whose richly detailed and narrative-driven work blends traditional Indian miniature painting with contemporary themes and digital media.
Their art challenges colonial histories and Eurocentric narratives and has been exhibited in major institutions such as Tate Britain, the National Portrait Gallery and National Museums Scotland. Their recent work includes the widely praised Slaves of Fashion exhibition and a nomination to represent Britain at the 2024 Venice Biennale.
Dr Circe Henestrosa
Fashion and Curation
Dr Henestrosa, an internationally recognised curator and academic, is currently Head of the School of Fashion at LASALLE College of the Arts, University of the Arts Singapore. She is best known for curating the landmark exhibition Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up at the V&A, which later toured internationally.
Dr Henestrosa’s curatorial practice and scholarly work explore fashion as a powerful tool for cultural storytelling, identity politics and global dialogue.
Del Walker
Character Art and the Games Industry
Del Walker is a leading British character artist with a career spanning more than 14 years in AAA game development. He has contributed to major titles including The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Batman: Arkham Knight and Apex Legends.
Currently Lead Character Artist at Absurd Ventures, Walker is a strong advocate for diversity in the games industry, regularly mentoring emerging talent through organisations such as BAFTA and Into Games.
Jim Sutherland
Branding and Communication Design
Sutherland is the founder of the award-winning design studio, Studio Sutherl&, and is one of the UK’s most celebrated graphic designers. His work has helped shape the visual identities of institutions including the Natural History Museum, Royal Mail, Wimbledon and Williams F1.
A former student at Norwich School of Art, Sutherland’s creative legacy includes over 50 Royal Mail stamp designs, multiple D&AD Yellow Pencils and an enduring commitment to education and mentorship in the design industry.
“We are honoured to welcome these extraordinary individuals into our university community. Their creativity, leadership and commitment to cultural advancement mirror the values we champion at Norwich University of the Arts. Their success will be an inspiration to our graduands as they embark on their own career journeys.”
Professor Simon Ofield-Kerr, Vice-Chancellor of Norwich University of the Arts
Previous recipients of Honorary Awards at Norwich University of the Arts include actor and art collector Russell Tovey, award-winning contemporary artist Ingrid Pollard and Ian Griffiths, the Creative Director of Max Mara.
