Norwich University of the Arts Students Shine at Sync The City 2024
Norwich University of the Arts students had another successful year at Sync The City 2024, taking home the top two awards for the third year running
This event, celebrating its 10th anniversary, highlighted our students’ creativity, technical expertise, and entrepreneurial spirit across multiple courses including BA (Hons) Graphic Design, BA (Hons) Graphic Communication, BSc (Hons) User Experience Design, Level 5 Diploma Creative Computing, MA Communication Design and BA (Hons) Games Art & Design.
Judges’ Prize Winner – Brightpath
The Judges’ Prize and £3,000 were awarded to Brightpath, a project to monitor and support children’s mental health in schools. The innovative concept was developed by first-year BSc (Hons) User Experience Design student Kurun Gill and BSc (Hons) User Experience Design graduate Tom Wardle, showcasing their ability to tackle critical societal challenges with innovative solutions.

People’s Choice Winner – Good Eggs
The audience-voted People’s Choice Prize and a £1,000 went to Good Eggs, an app connecting local organic farmers directly with consumers. The app’s prototypes and visual identity were created by MA Communication Design student Jade Guiraud, third-year BSc (Hons) User Experience Design student James Hopper, and third-year BA (Hons) Graphic Communication student Jacob Bryant. This marks the second consecutive People’s Choice Prize for James Hopper, whose team previously won with the project Hubl in 2023. Over the past year, James and Jacob launched Hubl as a live service supporting refugees and immigrants in Norwich, helping them develop English language skills.

Commended Finalist – Subsense
Second-year BSc (Hons) User Experience Design student Hunter Gurung made it through to the final round with Subsense, a platform for businesses to manage software and service subscriptions. Hunter’s engaging presentation earned a commendation from the judges and praise from mentors and teammates. His team included Faith Adcock, Matas Ancevicius, and Theo Horler, all students on BSc (Hons) User Experience Design.
Beacon’s Strong Presentation
First-year BA (Hons) Graphic Design student Eunseo Jang impressed audiences with her presentation of her team’s project, Beacon, further showcasing the exceptional standard of student contributions to the event. Held from November 28 to 30 at The King’s Centre in Norwich, Sync The City 2024 marked the event’s 10th anniversary. The 54-hour competition brought together over 100 participants, including aspiring entrepreneurs, developers, designers, and business experts, to transform innovative ideas into viable businesses. This year, more Norwich University of the Arts students participated than ever before, benefiting from unparalleled opportunities to collaborate with Norwich’s tech startup community and access mentorship from industry leaders.
