Norwich University of the Arts is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Ben Stopher as its next Vice-Chancellor.
Norwich University of the Arts is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Ben Stopher as its next Vice-Chancellor.
Currently serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stopher will assume the role in November 2025 when the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simon Ofield-Kerr, will move to leading a range of key strategic projects ahead of his retirement at the end of January 2026.
Chair of Council, Cathy Armor, commented:
“The selection panel was unanimous in its decision, and I am thrilled that Ben has accepted the role. He brings significant experience in academic leadership, a clear strategic vision, and a deep commitment to creative education. I am confident he has the energy, insight, and leadership to guide Norwich University of the Arts into its next chapter of success.”
Before joining Norwich University of the Arts, Professor Stopher was Dean of the Creative Computing Institute at University of the Arts London. In that role, he led the establishment of the University’s first dedicated institute for computing and creative technologies.
Over six years, he developed a wide-ranging portfolio of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programmes, while cultivating a strong culture of interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange.
A committed advocate for equality, diversity, and inclusion in higher education, Professor Stopher has served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor since April 2024. He brings a progressive and inclusive leadership style, with a strong focus on enriching the staff and student experience, expanding the University’s academic portfolio, and strengthening its international presence. He is passionate about the transformative power of creativity and innovation to shape education, culture, and society.
Speaking on his appointment, Professor Stopher said:
“It is a great honour to be named the next Vice-Chancellor of Norwich University of the Arts. The University plays a distinctive and vital role in the creative education landscape, and I am excited to continue working with such talented colleagues and students.
“This is a university that not only excels in its disciplines but also understands the transformative potential of creative practice for individuals, communities and industries. I can also say this understanding is held tightly by the outstanding people we have here – talented, creative, and dedicated staff and students from all corners of the globe – and a strong sense of community that reaches far beyond the campus.”
“I look forward to leading Norwich University of the Arts into its next phase – bold in ambition, inclusive in spirit, and firmly rooted in creative excellence.”
Current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simon Ofield-Kerr, added:
“It has been an immense privilege to finish my full-time academic career as Vice-Chancellor of Norwich University of the Arts. I will retire safe in the knowledge that Norwich is in a strong position for the future – and in Ben’s very capable hands, I know the University will continue to thrive and grow in confidence and creativity.”
