The information on this page explains how we calculate and classify your Bachelor degree award.
If you have any additional questions, please speak to your Course Leader in the first instance, or email registry@norwichuni.ac.uk.

Classification of Honours Degrees

Honours degrees are based on your final award mark and are classified as follows:

DegreeMark Classification
70-1001 (First Class)
60-692:1 (Upper Second Class)
50-592:2 (Lower Second Class)
40-493 (Third)

Your degree classification is determined by your final award mark. This is the mark awarded to a student on the basis of:

We’ll calculate both these marks for you and will use the higher of the two for your final award mark. Please note though that if you are a direct entrant to Year 3, your award will be calculated using your Year 3 marks only.
Further information about how your final award mark is calculated is shown below.

For students on Bachelor degree courses except BA (Hons) Architecture

Your Year 2 mark is 25% of the total of the following:
Your Year 3 mark is 75% of the total of the following:

Your Year 2 mark is 25% of the total of the following:
*If you completed Year 2 in 2019-20 or before, your Year 2 mark will be based on the average of three units each weighted at 40 credits.
Your Year 3 Mark is 75% of the total of the following:
Your final award mark is your Year 2 mark added to your Year 3 mark.

If we are using your Year 3 marks only (see above)

Your final award mark is calculated as detailed below:
Your final award mark is these two Year 3 marks added together.
The University doesn’t allow direct entry onto Year 3 of the BA (Hons) in Architecture, so this regulation would not be used to calculate a degree classification for a student on this course.
