We are changing the way that we manage extensions. Instead of having to apply for an extension to a deadline, we are introducing a Late Submission Policy.
We want to encourage everybody to submit to the published deadlines where possible. This helps you to plan, manage your time, and learn some very important skills that will benefit you throughout your life. Submitting to the deadline also allows the staff to mark your work in a timely manner so that you receive your feedback before the start of the next unit.
The Late Submission Policy works by allowing you to submit up to 5 working days after the deadline on a first attempt. The way the late submission policy works will depend on whether your unit is marked as pass/marginal fail/fail, or with a percentage mark. This is explained in the following section. You can also find FAQs on the Late Submission Policy here:
Remember – before you consider making a late submission, you should speak to your tutor.
You can submit up to 5 working days’ late for one unit in any one academic year.
If you submit late for a second or subsequent unit your work will be treated as a non-submission.
This applies to first attempts only. You cannot submit late for a referral or resubmission of a unit.
For post-graduate taught students, you cannot submit late under this policy for your final major project unit (PGT60b, MACE8, or MARCHDS4).
If you submit more than 5 working days late, your work will be treated as a non-submission.
If you submit up to 5 working days after the published deadline, we will deduct up to 10 marks. The actual number of marks deducted depends on how long after the deadline you submit.
*Working days do not include bank holidays, weekends, or University vacation periods.
If your work is of a pass standard, we will not deduct marks below the pass mark of 40%.
This applies to first attempts only. You cannot submit late for a referral or resubmission of a unit.
If you submit more than 5 working days late, your work will be treated as a non-submission.
We recognise that there are things that happen that can have an impact on a person’s ability to submit to deadline. We will therefore waive any deduction or non-submission under this policy for work submitted up to 5 working days late where:
