Immersive Visualisation and Simulation Lab (IVSL)

The lVSL is a state-of-the-art Research Lab and Studio designed to explore, develop, and commercialise next-generation immersive media and virtual production technologies.

The Immersive Visualisation and Simulation Lab (IVSL) is a state-of-the-art Research Lab and Studio based at Havers Road. The Lab is designed to explore, develop, and commercialise next-generation immersive media and virtual production technologies. Purpose-built to support experimentation and cross-industry innovation, the facility is a unique resource for creators, technologists, researchers, and businesses alike.

The IVSL features:

At the heart of the IVSL is a 4D Holosys Volumetric Capture System, enabling the full-body capture of human motion and expression in real time. This cutting-edge system transforms physical performances into 3D digital assets, ideal for use in gaming, film, animation, virtual reality, and metaverse environments. While the 10m x 4m 360-degree LED volume envelops users in high-resolution visuals and immersive sound design. Norwich’s Institute for Creative Technologies works through the lab to develop new methods of real-time rendering and interaction with virtual scenes.

The blend of advanced technologies makes the IVSL a versatile resource across the creative industries including film and television; gaming and interactive media; advertising and marketing; education and training; live arts and performance events.

With the volumetric capture stage, you can create:
