2pm – 4pm Saturday 17 May 2025
Join artists Arieh Frosh and Ed Compson for this participatory role-playing workshop, which combines visual art, gaming, and storytelling to explore the narrative of the North Sea.
This participatory role-playing workshop is an extension of Arieh Frosh and Ed Compson’s exhibition at East Gallery. The New Scroby Sands Offshore Wind Farm Information Centre looks at the relationship between offshore wind energy and Doggerland, the submerged landmass that used to connect the UK to mainland Europe.
During the workshop, participants will collectively construct a narrative in which we will create an energy company formed of multiple characters of the North Sea, from undersea cables to fishing trawlers. Through spoken role play, the characters will work their way through different changes in fortune.
The workshop is a coming together of visual art, gaming, and storytelling. While the artists will set the parameters of the story, there’s no way of knowing where it will lead.
No prior knowledge of the North Sea is needed to be involved, just a keenness to shape the story. The workshop is aimed at ages 16 and over, and will involve active participation and speaking in groups.
The workshop is free but spaces are limited to 15 places, so please book in advance.
