Find the Laser Cutting
In Guntons you’ll find digital design and open access design suites, laser cutters, in-house printing, UV printing, Digital Design helpdesk, 3D Workshop, industrial sewing machines and a range of studios and workshops.
The Cutting Room (GU106) has two large-bed laser cutters — for card, board, and acrylic materials — with associated digital design hardware and software. The machines are controlled by Ethos software that uses files from Adobe Illustrator.
Laser Cutter
At first, the Design Studio team will operate the laser cutter and guide you through all stages of the process. It’s important to discuss your project plan with Design Studio Team, so they can help and advise you, to make everything go as smoothly as possible.
Once you have completed the Laser Cutter Induction and feel confident using the machine, you can book it as a self-sufficient student and work without a Technician present.
The laser cutters must be booked in advance. They are available Monday to Friday from 09.30 to 16.00. (There is no booking fee.)
The VLE page has more information about booking and using the laser cutters.
