BA Graphic Communication student awarded Type Director’s Club certificate

Sophia Brandt was awarded for her Kieler-Woche poster design.

BA Graphic Communication student Sophia Brandt has been recognised by the prestigious Type Director’s Club award scheme.

The Type Director’s Club is a leading organisation that supports excellence in typography both in print and on screen. It runs annual competitions that are open worldwide.

“I am honoured to receive a Certificate of Typographic Excellence and to be featured in the annual book The World’s Best Typography” said Sophia.

“I studied abroad through the Erasmus scheme in my second semester, choosing Kommunication Design at Muthesius Kunsthochschule in Germany. In my modules I chose to specialise in typography, where I learned in depth about the history of type.”

“During my semester I discovered many assets of German culture and traditions of the city I lived in. We celebrated the “Kieler-Woche”, an annual sailing event in Kiel. It’s the largest sailing event in the world and attracts millions of people every year. I designed a poster proposal for the event, distorting the type to mimic the movement of water” said Sophia.

Sophia’s work will be published in the Annual of the Type Director’s Club, The World’s Best Typography and will be shown at the 65th Awards Exhibition in New York City. The work will also be exhibited at identical exhibitions in dozens of cities across the United States, Canada, China, England and many more.

You can follow Sophia’s work on her Instagram.
