Beyond the Frame photography competition 2022

Norwich University of the Arts’ Beyond the Frame competition is back for its fifth year. We’re looking for the finest photography by students in Secondary (11+) or Further Education.

The Beyond the Frame competition was launched in 2017 to encourage young photographers to develop their craft and showcase their talent. In its debut year, the competition attracted more than 170 entries; by 2020 this rose to over 600 entries from around the world.

BA (Hons) Photography course leader James Smith will be joined by acclaimed photographers — Ade Àsìkò, Lucia Griggi, and NUA graduate Emily Edwards — to judge this year’s entries and award the first prize of a new Canon EOS M50 Mark II camera for each age category.

Theme for 2022: Curiosity

What separates our images from anyone else’s is Curiosity.

What are the things that interest and excite you, what are you passionate about?

Photography gives you the opportunity to explore and investigate the things that you are curious about, and through your approach you can tell others why your subject is so interesting.

We would like to see your images that show the things you are curious about. You are free to interpret this in any way, for example your work could be about:

  • Conservation and wildlife
  • Your life and where you live
  • Fashion and culture

You can enter up to three photographs and/or one piece of moving image. They can be a series on the same theme or independent images.

Students are invited to enter up to three photographs and/or one piece of moving image, by the deadline of 17 February 2022.

For full information and to apply, please visit the Beyond the Frame website.

Shortlisted entries will be displayed in an online exhibition from April 2022, and the winners will be announced in March 2022.
