MA Textile Design graduate presents work at Gucci Circolo

MA Textile Design graduate Lorelle Aboagye-Mubanga will be presenting her work as part of HOME by Ronan Mckenzie’s Collective Processes at the Gucci Circolo Shoreditch pop-up.

The exhibition represents a range of artistic practices by black women artists. Lorelle will be exhibiting Kente Re-coded; The Departure Cloth & The Weaver’s Stool.

Tell us about your creative process for this series of work:

The word Legacy is central to my practice as a Textile Designer. The aim of the Kente Re-coded series has always been to develop well-crafted historical documents through textiles that are beautiful in their design and experimental in their construction. My experiments reflect the ritual function of Kente, but as an evolution of the cloth emulate historical and personal observations on culture, identity and heritage.

What does this opportunity mean to you?

It is an amazing opportunity to showcase my textiles as part of the HOME’s extended family in the Gucci Circolo space.
