Katrin Dimitrova and Amy Pollard, BA Fashion, finalists in prestigious Golden Shears awards 2021
The Golden Shears is a prestigious biannual competition celebrating the next generation of tailors. It is open to fashion design students and apprentice tailors across the UK.
Second year BA (Hons) Fashion students Katrin Dimitrova and Amy Pollard reached the final stages of the competition, which NUA students have only achieved once before.
Only 24 out of 100 entries proceed to the final stage of the competition.
The competition required all entrants to submit one complete garment for blind judging by a panel of industry experts.
Katrin’s garment takes inspiration from the history of the Troyan Monastery.
“The whole preparation around the creation of the last piece improved my technical skills and motivated and focused me to show the best of myself” she said.
Amy explored impressionism in art and music alongside men’s mental health for her garment.
“I’m a visual creator, so creating a concept where the viewer is completely immersed was the end goal. Mind, sight and sound are always at the forefront of my work,” said Amy.
Congratulations to Katrin and Amy!
