Lecturer curates Anthony Caro inspired show

Fine Art Lecturer Dr Mark Wilsher and Jenny Dunseath of Bath Spa University developed and created the exhibition Artist Boss, exploring the relationship between sculptor Anthony Caro (1924-2013) and four of his studio assistants at the New Art Centre in Salisbury. From the early stages of his career Sir Anthony Caro employed young artists as studio assistants in his Camden studio. Artist Boss underlines the crucial importance of relationships and a sense of community within a creative workplace. Four assistants – Ian Dawson, John Gibbons, Guy Martin and John Wallbank – from five successive decades of employment are represented with recent works, alongside pieces made by Caro during their respective eras in the studio. Springing from the creation of this involving and scholarly exhibition, the Artist Boss book (published by Wunderkammer Press), written and edited by Mark and Jenny, presents a series of interviews with studio assistants, and critical essays and interviews with Anthony Caro.
