Best vegan friendly places in Norwich

Student Ambassador Freya talks us through her favourite vegan friendly places in Norwich.

Embracing a vegan lifestyle not only benefits the planet and saves animals’ lives, it’s also never been easier to be vegan, especially when you are living in Norwich. Renowned for its vibrant plant-based scene, Norwich stands as a haven for exceptional vegan selections. With an abundance of fully vegan eateries and an array of shops catering specifically to plant-based needs, adopting a vegan lifestyle in Norwich has never been simpler. Below are a list of my favourite plant-based finds in and around Norwich.

Tofurei

Nestled in the heart of Norwich’s lanes, Tofurei is a bustling plant-based café offering an enticing array of cakes, sandwiches, hot dishes, drinks, and pastries – all crafted with care and creativity. Tofurei has an emphasis on their tofu production, their ‘Iconic Norwich Tofu’ is on sale in the café too.

Stepping into Tofurei, you’re greeted in the stylish café with a range of seating on both levels. The cake stand is brimming with an irresistible assortment of sweet treats. After much deliberation, I had a gorgeous strawberry chocolate cake, oat milk latte and a tasty ‘cumberland sausage roll’. Each item was delicious with an array of flavours showcasing the creativity and skill that Tofurei infused into every dish. The pricing of the home-baked goods was fair and reasonable. I plan to return with friends or perhaps bring my laptop to catch up on some university work within the cosy atmosphere.

Moorish Falafel Bar

Moorish is a gem found in the Norwich Lanes tempting customers for 13 years with an array of Middle Eastern flavours. The fully plant-based café specialises in crafting mouth-watering Mexican, Mediterranean, and Greek style falafel wraps in addition to vegan burgers. I had the Mediterranean wrap with baba ghanoush, fried aubergine, sumac onion and slaw, and it was very tasty. I’ve also tried the Greek wrap, with vegan feta, tabouleh, hummus, and slaw. Both were equally delicious, filling and bursting with flavour.

There is a cosy indoor seating area upstairs, and a select amount of outdoor seating available in front of the falafel bar. You can also opt for a takeaway service if you prefer.

Bakeaholics

Bakeaholics is a permanent pop-up located in Norwich’s Chantry Place, in addition to a shop in Attleborough. The stall is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and some full weeks during the school holidays. The popular stall offers a wide range of handmade sweet treats, with some vegan options. Their stock changes each week however they mostly stock planted-based chocolate brownies, Biscoff brownies, cookie sandwiches, cookie pies, flapjacks and dipped cookies. The Biscoff cookie sandwich is my personal favourite, a chocolate chip cookie base with a biscoff cream filling, sandwiched between another chocolate chip cookie with biscoff on the top. A genuinely mouth-watering treat. These huge cookie sandwiches are on the pricey side, so they are definitely indulgent.

Norwich Market

Norwich Market stands as an iconic feature of the city and a hub for culinary diversity, offering a huge range of different vegan food options. One of the highlights of Norwich Market’s vegan offerings is the array of international cuisines. From mouth-watering falafel wraps at ‘Falafel and Friends’ to tasty Thai curries made with tofu found in ‘Fresh’, the market boasts a variety of flavours from around the globe. Whether you’re craving the spice of Indian street food or tasty desserts, you’ll find plenty of plant-based options on the market. Some of the stalls have their own seating, but there are benches and tables situated at the back of the market to enjoy your tasty plant-based choices!

Slice + Dice

Slice + Dice is a board game cafe found on St. Benedict’s Street. Perhaps better known for its 300 strong library of games for all ages and skill levels, it also serves an impressive selection of vegan food and drink every day. Whether you’re a table top gaming enthusiast or you’re looking for an interesting lunch spot with friends, Slice + Dice is well worth a visit. Friendly staff are on hand to recommend a game and explain the rules if you’re in need of inspiration, but you’re welcome to book a table just for food if games aren’t your thing. From a beef-style ‘Catan Burger’ to a Miso Augbergine Rice Bowl, the menu has something to suit everyone. It’s also a great place to come for a cosy night out, with a board game themed cocktail menu, local beers and speciality teas and coffees. Everything on the menu, food and drink, is 100% plant based.
