MA Fine Art graduate Carrie Clarke reflects on her experience at Norwich University of the Arts, from exploring new materials to building confidence in her practice as a sculptor.

Hi, my name is Carrie Clarke and I’ve been studying MA Fine Art, part time, at Norwich University of the Arts.
Hi Carrie! Can you introduce yourself and tell us what you’ve been studying?

The course has encouraged me to be out of my comfort zone and it’s given me the confidence to try new things. Exploration is a big, big part of the MA and you’re encouraged very much to do that. And that takes you to places that you wouldn’t ordinarily go to.
What have the most valuable aspects of studying the MA been?

The course has put me in touch with a lot of other students, like-minded students who help motivate and support you.
What has the student community at Norwich been like?

As a sculptor, one of my favourite parts of the University has been the 3D workshop. I’ve spent most of my time in there, with the 3D technicians and experimenting, exploring materials, with all the equipment that they have there to use.
And which facilities have you most enjoyed using?

You’re encouraged to be completely out of your comfort zone and that’s enabled me, really, to think of myself as a proper artist.
How has the experience changed the way you see yourself as an artist?
