Fine Art course leader and students participate in Hospital Rooms project

Carl Rowe and Fine Art students contribute to Hospital Rooms project alongside high profile artists.

The arts and mental health charity Hospital Rooms is launching its first project outside of London with Woodlands at Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust. Hospital Rooms commissions museum quality artwork for mental health units in NHS hospitals and has been invited by staff and patients at Woodlands in Ipswich to create artwork for a variety of spaces.

Artists participating in the project are visionary photographer Nick Knight OBE, BAFTA award-winning artist Tal Rosner and Royal Academy Schools alumni Nancy Milner, alongside Rebecca Byrne, Tim A Shaw and BA (Hons) Fine Art Course Leader Carl Rowe.

The artists will work in partnership with patients, clinicians, carers and the wider community to transform rooms, and will collectively explore how both the co-production process and artworks themselves can instil feelings of dignity and control in patients in very stressful situations.

Alongside the project, Fine Art students from NUA and the University of Suffolk will work with the Hospital Rooms and Woodlands team to explore their own ideas for the unit, which will culminate in a presentation in 2019.
