Photography graduates and Lecturer in Parliament exhibition

Denisa Ilie, Danyelle Rolla and Sophie Lachowycz in ‘209 Women’ Parliament exhibition.

BA (Hons) Photography graduate Denisa Ilie and BA (Hons) Photography Lecturer Sophie Lachowycz each have a portrait hanging in the 209 Women exhibition, currently on show in Westminster. To mark 100 years since some women achieved the right to vote, the exhibition aims to take over parliament with 209 new photographic portraits of all female MPs, shot exclusively by female photographers. 209 Women is a national artist-led project founded by Hilary Wood that aims to champion the visibility of women, particularly in male-dominated environments. 

Denisa comments: “209 Women is a wonderful project and I am delighted to be included in the selection of photographers working on it, as I have always been passionate about bringing equality in a variety of professional environments. I believe that there is a low level of female representation in photography and when looking up female MPs in the House of Commons, I wasn’t surprised to see that this is the case in politics as well, with only 32% of the total number of MPs being women. I believe that this project will raise awareness about these issues and it will hopefully trigger a better representation of women throughout the professional world.”

MA Photography graduate Danyelle Rolla also contributed a portrait to the exhibition.
