Illustration students exhibit work at Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts

Year 3 students exhibited work based on the Sainsbury Centre’s permanent collection.

Third year BA (Hons) Illustration students recently exhibited and sold a selection of works inspired by the permanent collection at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts.

Each student who took part in the project focused on one object within the permanent collection and created bespoke limited edition work in response. The students with Sainsbury Centre staff Rory Hill and Nell Croose Myhill to ensure their final outcomes were sensitive to the collections, audience and ethos of the retail offer at the gallery. The final exhibition resulted in a diverse set of works, each true to the individual illustrator’s visual language, ranging from intaglio prints, textiles, cushions and scarves, stamp kits, candles and ceramics.

“Students worked intensely with our amazing technician teams in 3D, Print, Design and Textiles to fabricate works with digital and analogue techniques using paper, fabric, metal, wax, wood and clay,” said Senior Lecturer Peter Nencini. “Each student’s choice of materials connects to their chosen Sainsbury Centre objects – and also reflects the diversity of forms we see in contemporary Illustration.”
