Recharge in Norwich

At times, we all need to step back and think of our own self-care. Trying to keep your creativity flowing whilst studying or preparing for your Degree Shows can be tricky, so we asked BA (Hons) Illustration student Sophie Kent to share her top 5 tips for self-care in Norwich – accompanied by her very own digital illustrations.

1. Get Zen

Yoga is great for your body and mind. If you would like to give it a try, there are studios in Norwich like The Yoga Tree and The Yoga Studio, NUA Students Union Yoga Society or if you would prefer there are a lot of tutorials on YouTube that I recommend!

2. Chill Out in Nature

You can chill out in nature through the many walks available in Norwich, like along the river or a visit to Mousehold Heath. Incorporating mindfulness to your walks can be an extra bonus.

3. Eat Well

It’s important to fuel your body with the right foods to keep your brain healthy. You can get fresh fruit and veg from the Norwich Market and there are numerous healthy options in the restaurants around Norwich, like Pono, Salt or Finnie’s Juice Bar.

4. Slow Down

Meditation is great for your mental health; it can help to destress and organise your thoughts. The Norwich Buddhist Centre offers drop in meditation sessions multiple times a week, alternatively you can follow a YouTube tutorial or use an app like Headspace.

5. Stay Active

Moving your body releases feel-good hormones that can increase your mood, just going for a walk is enough for this, you could take up running somewhere pretty like in Eaton Park, you can join one of the gyms within Norwich (like Pure Gym, The Gym or Phoenix Gym) or you could join one of the NUA Sports Societies for added social benefits.
