MA student and graduate shortlisted for Vlieseline Fine Art Textiles Award 2020
Student Lucie Summers and graduate Lizzie Kimbley, both MA Textile Design, have been shortlisted for the Vlieseline Fine Art Textiles Award 2020.
The Vlieseline Fine Art Textile Award provides an opportunity to showcase the breadth of exciting work being undertaken by textile artists today. Its first prize of £5,000 demonstrates a sizeable investment in, and recognition of, the importance of this medium within the art world.
Lizzie Kimbley graduated from MA Textile Design in 2019. Her Walking Wheatfen: Winter is part of a collection inspired by walking, drawing and gathering plants for natural dye at Wheatfen Nature Reserve in Norfolk. The slow, repetitive rhythms of both walking and weaving combine to create work that is quiet and meditative. Designed and made responsibly with the whole life cycle in mind, the materials can be reclaimed or will biodegrade so no waste is left behind.
Lucie Summers, currently studying at NUA, takes her inspiration from living in the countryside on a farm. Using plants foraged from meadows and hedgerows, she colours cloth to create collaged surfaces influenced by weathered textures found around the farm yard.
