9 things to do in Norwich this Halloween
The spooky season is here! Here are our suggestions on how to get into the Halloween spirit across Norwich.
1. Ghost Walks
October 29 – 2 November, 7pm/9pm – tickets £10 + booking fee
There’s no better way to explore our medieval city on a crisp October evening than taking up a Norwich Ghost Walk.
Lead by the Shadowcaster, you will be guided around the city to the most haunted parts and told tales of lost spirits and sneaky poltergeists who are still hanging around with unfinished business to this day! Dressing up is entirely optional, but there’s a prize for the best dressed costume.
2. Watch a Halloween classic
28 October-31 October – tickets £7.70 with student pass
One of the best things about Halloween is kicking back and digging out the cult classic horror films that defined an era.
Cinema City are bringing back some epic treats this Halloween with screenings of The Shining, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Rocky Horror Picture Show. Whether you haven’t seen them before or you can watch them on repeat, nothing beats seeing these films on the big screen.
3. Halloween Pub Quiz
Monday 28 October, 6-9pm – tickets £2
As part of their ‘Student Mondays’ events, The Merchants House are hosting a Halloween themed pub quiz. Test your knowledge on literature, history, folklore, ghost stories and more. Take advantage of their student drink deals, bring along a takeaway and you’ll be set for the night.
4. Pumpkin picking
Throughout October
If the scarier events aren’t your bag and you fancy flexing your creative muscles, you can get seasonal by visiting a ‘pick your own pumpkin patch’ and carving a stellar design into it. Hop on the bus and take a trip to White House Farm and choose your very own pumpkin to take back home and get to work on.
5. Autumn creative market
Friday 1 November, 10.30am-3.30pm, Duke Street
We just love wandering around a good market, especially one that is hosted by our students. Open to the public, this fair will be a celebration of the diverse talent of our students who will be there selling various works of art including prints, artwork, cards, handmade gifts and more.
6. Escape room with a difference
Friday 1 November, 9.30pm-4am – tickets £15 + booking fee
If you’re after something a little bit different and enjoy solving puzzles, OPEN are holding an escape room with a difference. In groups, make your way through the venue in the dark, solving puzzles and clues to find one single key card to help you escape. Oh, and there will be loads of zombies ravaging around you at the same time.
Using a mixture of Nerf guns and live action role-play (LARP) safe weapons, you’ll fight off the zombie horde and make your way through the maze to lead your team to safety. Once your team has solved the puzzle and successfully escaped, you’ll switch roles and become part of the zombie horde putting pressure on the next group. There’s also a prize for the team who escapes the quickest with the most members alive.
7. Afternoon tea
21-31 October, £21.95 per person
After a bite to eat? Well, you can’t beat a good old afternoon tea. Cakes, savoury treats, endless cups of tea – literal food of the gods. But lets kick it up a notch – a Halloween themed afternoon tea? Yes please! With options to suit all dietary requirements and tastebuds, the Assembly House has got you covered, be sure to book a table!
8. Party at The Waterfront
Thursday 31st October, 9pm-2am – tickets £4 + booking fee
It’s a rite of passage for every student don their best Halloween costume and flock to the Waterfront for a special Halloween Meltdown/Propaganda event.
Bop along to some thrilling tunes, slurp on a specially-made creepy cocktail and grab a doughnut or some candyfloss from the stall in the garden for a freakishly good night.
9. PrimEVIL
Tuesday 29 October, 5.45pm-late – tickets £24 including transport
Are you more of a thrillseeker? Someone who likes to take part in spine-chilling crazy things to feel alive? Do you like the sound of being hunted for an evening? PrimEVIL is right up your street.
With six themed haunted attractions, you and your group will navigate your way through incredibly unsettling environments packed with obstacle courses, non-stop twists, wrong turns and empty corridors. Oh, and the odd live actor darting out of nowhere to keep you on your toes.
