Five online resources for staying connected with the arts

Whether you’re looking for inspiration or just hoping to see something new, we’ve collated five online resources from museums, galleries and cinemas for you to explore and stay connected with the arts during lockdown- because #cultureisnotcancelled!

1. Kettle’s Yard webcam

With a peaceful view of the Kettle’s Yard conservatory that changes every 8 seconds between 5.30am and 8.30pm, find a moment of calm and watch the light change throughout the day via their live webcam. If you fancy exploring the rest of the house once belonging to artists Jim and Helen Ede, you can also take a Virtual House Tour for the full history of this beautiful gallery and house.

2. BFI’s YouTube 

The BFI is the UK’s lead organisation for film, TV and moving image. Browse their YouTube channel for access to the BFI National Archive, previews, highlights from BFI film festivals, the latest trailers and interviews with the world’s greatest filmmakers

3. The National Gallery Virtual Tour

Delve into a world of Renaissance masterpieces with this virtual tour of a selection of rooms within The National Gallery. Guide yourself through the 360 degree tour and spend as long as you like at each work of art- and have the place entirely to yourself! Viewers can also find an extensive collection of films with talks, art restoration and previous exhibitions on The National Gallery’s YouTube. 

4. MoMA’s Virtual Views

The Museum of Modern Art in New York aims to bring their galleries to you with their Virtual Views series. The series began on April 9 and invites viewers to join them every Thursday and #MuseumFromHome for a new virtual experience- including talks from curators, a live Q&A with MoMA Director Glenn Lowry and explorations of their exhibitions.

5. Tate’s Online Collection

Tate’s Online Collection spans several centuries, 400o artists and 78,000 artworks. Browse by theme to discover something new, from collections such as Queer Lives and Art and Wellbeing and Art. Or delve into Tate’s selection of behind the scenes videos and artist talks to expand your knowledge.
