Graphic Communication student wins Dragon Rouge Firestarter competition
Drew Florence won the award for his campaign for his brand ‘Mankind’.
Third year BA (Hons) Graphic Communication student Drew Florence has won the Dragon Rogue Firestarters competition, which is held annually.
“It was great news to hear I’d won the competition!” said Drew.
All entrants had the choice of three briefs to work on, Drew submitted campaign designs for his brand ‘Mankind’ for the project brief ‘Take on Taboo’, where he was required to pick a societal taboo – like periods, mental health, sex, death, then choose or create a brand to ‘break’ it with, and get people talking.
His campaign was centred around raising awareness on the topic of male domestic violence, highlighting victims through hidden messaging.
“The term ‘domestic abuse’ is usually perceived as a man attacking a woman. However, last year 695,000 men were victims of this crime,” said Drew, “men are reluctant to report abuse because they feel embarrassed and fear that they won’t be believed.”
“The brand tackles the taboo topic of male domestic violence by voicing victims through hidden messaging and using augmented reality to reveal the victims stories.”
