Interior Design students take part in NPS workshop

Stefanie Partington, Associate Interior Designer at NPS ran a workshop for second year BA (Hons) Interior Design students.

Second year BA (Hons) Interior Design students recently took part in a materials workshop ran by Stefanie Partington, Associate Interior Designer at NPS.

During the morning session the students spent time working in teams with Stefanie exploring a variety of materials and finishes from vinyl to carpet, designed to help students make a stronger connection between the concept and final specification for their current projects.

“I think that running a physical workshop with various samples and materials to look at and respond to through touch helped the students to open up to possibility through surface materials available in practise” said Stefanie, “the physicality rather than digital approach got the students thinking how things go together and what attributes you need to look for when designing for specific surfaces, uses and sectors.”

During the afternoon session, the students each had one to one time with Stefanie, who reviewed student work and advised them on materials and finishes for their projects.

“The students were extremely engaging, I was taken back by their genuine interest and inquisitive approach and the range of responses was great. The varied thought processes behind their design projects really impressed me” said Stefanie.

“The course and facilities provided by NUA are growing our designers of the future, something I am really pleased to have been invited along to help with. The students have excellent and relevant industry software and technology available to them as tools, and to balance this they have a fantastic studio space in which to generate their creativity in a collaborative environment.”
