Jess Edwards, BA Fashion Communication and Promotion, selected for ELLE Mentorship Scheme
The ELLE Mentorship Scheme, which is in its second year of running, is open to only 10 ‘inspiring’ students across the country.
Jess was selected for the scheme during her first year of studying BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Promotion, and has featured in the September 2021 issue of ELLE.
“The mentorship scheme is going so well, I’ve met some amazing people on Zoom,” said Jess.
ELLE’s mentorship scheme aims to help bridge the gap between students and industry.
On the scheme, students gain access to talks and workshops from leaders in industry, as well as their own dedicated mentor.
“The whole experience has been so enjoyable. I’ve done things I would have never imagined – all during a pandemic”

So far, Jess has seen what goes into creating a fashion magazine, contributed ideas for styling and creative direction to interviewing celebrities.
“Since joining the mentoring programme in July I’ve learnt so much about ELLE from the making of the magazine to building the brand.”
“I’ve spoken to some incredible people at ELLE such as the Social Media Manager, the Art Team and my amazing mentor the Digital Director of ELLE,” said Jess.
“My main interest is social media. I’ve learnt about how ELLE plan posts and manage their platforms. Additionally I’ve learnt how to get the most traffic to their website.”
“The whole experience has been so enjoyable. I’ve done things I would have never imagined – all during a pandemic. For example, I’ve interviewed Olympic boxer, Ramla Ali, and had a photoshoot with Borja Marting. I’ve had the most incredible time so far.”
