The Batsford Prize is an annual award for students, spanning the categories Applied Art and Textiles, Fine Art, Illustration and Children’s Illustration. Work in the 2020-21 prize responds to the theme Our Planet

Molly, who is in Year 2 BA (Hons) Textile Design, has had her 1.2 x 2m repeat pattern selected. She says her piece is “inspired by the British countryside, plants and insects. The design aims to capture the feeling of walking in nature and colours reflect the natural environment.”

Megan’s piece Fragments “focuses on a variety of techniques. Inspired by cultural preservation and tradition, this series evidences influences from Romania. The traditional wall carpet has allowed me to develop a sustainable/ economical ethos which creates a positive impact on our planet.”
