Fine Art graduate exhibits in Sunday Times Watercolour Competition

BA (Hons) Fine Art graduate Josie Clouting has had her painting Almost Lost selected for the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition 2019. 

Now in it’s 32nd year, the Sunday Times Watercolour competition is the UK’s most prestigious prize for contemporary watercolour painting. The competition brings together artists all across the UK, and at its heart celebrates and redefines the beauty and diversity of watercolour and water-based media. Josie’s painting is one of approximately 100 works selected by a panel of leading figures from the art world, and will feature in a touring exhibition of the shortlisted works.   Almost Lost is part of a recent series of paintings by Josie that are inspired by wild places. She comments, “My new collection of landscape paintings are inspired by my experiences exploring the British coastline and moorland. I am particularly drawn to the drama of rock formations and their presence within a landscape…I enjoy experimenting with process, allowing any accidents that can happen along the way. Using a mixture of water-based paints such as acrylic and gouache, as well as pastel, allows me to play with textures and transparencies.”  

The Sunday Times Watercolour exhibition runs from the 17-22 September at the Mall Galleries in London, before touring to Trowbridge and Guildford.
