Course Leader, Graphic Communication and User Experience Design
Communication Design
Dave joined the university in 2019 as a Graphics Lecturer, becoming Course Leader for BSc (Hons) User Experience Design and BA (Hons) Graphic Communication in 2022.
In 2026 he also became Cluster Lead for the postgraduate Human-Centred Design Masters courses: MA User Experience Design, MA Service Design, and MA Interaction Design. He previously taught on the MA Digital Media, MA Photography, and BA Media & Communications programmes at Goldsmiths, University of London, and has worked in digital media production and education since 2005.
Research and practice
My work has included research, consultancy and production of video, motion graphic design and animation, UX and web design, graphic design, and sound design, with clients including Moth Quantum, CTVC, ChannelFlip Media, and Dinosaur.
- 2026 Quantum Backrooms, motion graphics to promote a videogame by Moth, powered by live quantum computer data.
- 2025 Stable Visions, research and consultancy for an AI-driven 360-degree video work screened at Norwich’s Immersive Simulation and Visualisation Lab, directed by Antony Barkworth Knight.
- 2025 norwichux.design, designed and published a recruitment and resource website for UX design graduates, employers, and prospective students.
- 2025 The AI Debate, presentation at Norwich AI Summit 2025.
- 2024 What makes them click?, presentation on UX psychology at Product Tank Norwich.
- 2022 Trace, project exploring LiDAR scanning and photogrammetry as durational media production tools.
- 2021 Human Interfaces Research Group website, designed with Jamie Gledhill, promoting the outputs of research group members.
- 2018 The Demon’s Head, post-production for an animated short film for CTVC/Truetube. Nominated for a BAFTA Children’s Award and Learning On Screen Award.
- 2017 Learning with Lynda : Online Video Tutorial System Use in Academia, presentation at John Beacham Teaching Conference, Goldsmiths, University of London.
- 2016 A Hail of Bullets : Moving Beyond Powerpoint and Towards Visual Storytelling, presentation at John Beacham Teaching Conference, Goldsmiths, University of London.
- 2011-2014 Director, animator, and sound designer for Channelflip Media. Productions included David Mitchell’s Soapbox, Harry Hill’s Little Internet Show, and Multimash.
- 2010 New Light Stir, live-action short film, co-directed with Mike Mallet.
- 2007 080, animated short film, director, animator, sound design. International festival screenings, British Animation Awards public choice finalist.
