Olukunle Mobolaji Akinola

Olu is a Senior Lecturer on Games Development at Norwich University of the Arts, specialising in Programming.

Olu’s teaching and research is Technology focused as he is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with Multimedia focus which includes Distributed Video Coding, cutting edge of Codec Standardization (HEVC, versatile video coding VVC), Video Games, Holographs, Immersive video processing and 360degree video (VR, AR and XR) and its application in Internet of Things (IOT).

I received my PhD in Computing and Communications from The Open University, Milton Keynes, UK. Obtained my MSc in Electrical Engineering (Instrumentation and Digital Systems) from the Universidad de Guanajuato, Mexico and BSc in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Furthermore, I am a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Qualified Teacher with a QTS and Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) from Leeds Beckett, University, UK.

Before working at Norwich University of the Arts, I was an Assistant Professor at the Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, China. A research Fellow at the world-famous Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP) of the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK. Also, a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the Communications, Sensing and Imaging (CSI) group of the University of Glasgow, Glasgow, UK. Furthermore, I worked as a Power Engineer for seven years at Siemens with practical, hands-on knowledge of the Simatic S5/S7 Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). Recently, I was a Lecturer and Course lead in Electronics and Electrical Engineering at Bedford College, England, UK.

My principal research goal, however, is to harness signal processing (image, video, speech, terahertz signal imaging etc) to solve difficult problems.

I am a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a member of IEEE (MIET), a member of the IET (MIET) and an Editorial Board Member of Journal of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (JEEE).
