Students and graduates build games in Global Game Jam 2020
Students and graduates from Norwich University of the Arts created 13 games in 48 hours as part of Global Game Jam 2020, an international challenge to build prototype games over two days to a common theme.
The theme of this year’s jam was “repair” and saw people from more than 100 countries take part across 31 January – 2 February.
Students from BA (Hons) Games Art and Design and BSc (Hons) Games Development were joined at the university’s St Andrew’s House for the challenge by local further education students and NUA graduates.
Kate Edwards, Executive Director of Global Game Jam, visited Norwich University of the Arts ahead of the weekend’s event. Her advice to students was to pace themselves throughout the weekend and enjoy the intense creativity of the experience.
“For a lot of people, the Global Game Jam is where they get their first exposure as creating games as a team…I know a lot of people who got their start in the games industry because of the Global Game Jam.”
BA (Hons) Games Art and Design student Marianne Skinner Cassidy commented about the experience, “It’s a good way to get something external to your portfolio and course work. Taking part in games jams helps your work really shine.”
Norwich University of the Arts has a global reputation for excellence in games – and was ranked in the world’s 10 top universities by a panel of games industry veterans, The Rookies, in 2018.
