Technician: Physical Computing 0.6 FTE

We’re looking for a Creative Technologist to support students working with physical computing in our Creative Technology Lab and new Computing Hub—two vibrant spaces at the heart of the university that give students access to emerging technologies like creative coding, machine learning, VR/AR, and projection mapping.

In this role, you’ll help students bring their ideas to life, guiding them through the process of researching, prototyping, and completing their projects. You’ll offer one-to-one support and deliver hands-on inductions that give students the confidence and skills to work independently, exploring the connections between hardware, software, and the physical world.

You’ll also support the teaching of electronics and coding within an art and design context. This means having a solid understanding of creative electronics and experience with tools like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, breadboarding, PCB design, and circuit building.

Working closely with academic staff and fellow technicians, you’ll help ensure students use our facilities safely and creatively. You’ll support workshops, offer technical advice, and work with students at all levels—from those just starting out to those tackling advanced interactive projects.

We’re looking for someone with a relevant qualification or industry experience, and a strong grasp of their technical specialism. Familiarity with areas like robotics, AI, or machine learning is a bonus, but not essential.

Most importantly, you’ll bring curiosity, creativity, and a passion for technology. You’ll be excited to experiment with new tools, learn new skills, and support students from all backgrounds as they explore the possibilities of creative technology.

Salary: From £16,586.40 to £18,982.20 per annum Pro-rated from a full-time equivalent salary of £27,644 to £31,637 per annum
