Level 5 Diploma in Creative Computing

The Level 5 Diploma in Creative Computing is a year-long course that is available between the second and final year of a degree course.  It is designed to introduce you to creative computing, and to help give you an understanding of how coding skills can be used to advance and complement your creative practice.

Students do not need any prior experience of coding to participate, just a curiosity about creative computing and a desire to push their own practice digitally.

Unit one

In the first unit, you will develop core computational thinking skills, learn fundamental programming techniques as well as develop creative thinking and interface design skills. You will work through a series of mini-projects culminating in a larger web-based project.

Unit two

In the second unit, you will extend your programming skills by learning the fundamentals of object-oriented programming. You will develop more sophisticated interaction design skills, practice team-working and project development skills. You will encounter more advanced programming topics such as simulating form and motion found in nature and will explore a range of emerging technology platforms such as AR and VR.

Students will also investigate ways in which creative coding has been applied to their discipline. Finally, you will have the opportunity to develop a significant self-defined project relevant to your practice, with the close support of the course team.

The Level 5 Diploma in Creative Computing will add an additional digital creative dimension to a student’s main discipline and equip them with development skills that are likely to make them more employable, not least by enhancing their practice but also by making them stand out from the crowd.
