The lab currently supports funded work exploring climate futures, virtual heritage, spatial computing, applied games, leading-edge approaches to virtual production and practice-based technology innovation for cultural organisations.
The Immersive Visualisation and Simulation Lab (IVSL) has been funded through the UKRI | AHRC Creative Research Capabilities (CResCa) world-class labs scheme.
The IVSL features:
- 4D Holosys Volumetric Capture System
- 10m x 4m 360 degree LED volume with immersive sound
- Programmable AI for audience interaction
It is also home to an extensive Disguise-based Virtual Production Studio, developed in partnership with global technology company Sony. The combined studio forms a new hub for digital creativity, placing Norwich at the forefront of digital storytelling and next-generation filmmaking.
The Virtual Production Studio is set to launch in autumn 2025, bringing cutting edge technology to the University’s film, animation, games and visual effects students.
