Beyond the Frame is an international photography competition open to students in Secondary or Further Education (ages 11-19). This is the competition’s sixth year, and saw an incredible level of participation. 650 entries from 176 schools in 26 different countries were narrowed down to just 50 shortlisted candidates.

All three judges were overwhelmed by the quality of work on display, and were hard-pushed to select just six winners. All shortlisted candidates and their work can be seen on the Beyond the Frame website.

Both age group winners were awarded with a EOS M50 Mark II camera, courtesy of event sponsor Canon. ‘People’, ‘Places’, ‘Things’ and Moving Image winners received a prize selected by the judge of each category.

Winners were announced at a ceremony held at Norwich University of the Arts, to which all shortlisted photographers were invited. Judges Clive Booth and Cat Gundry-Beck introduced some of their work and practice, before they were joined by BA (Hons) Photography Course Leader James Smith, and Norwich Photography graduate Jason Stirland for a discussion on the future of photography.

“The standard of work on show was incredible and produced such a diverse range of images. The sense of play and experimentation was unbelievable, with people finding influences from so many different places.”
