Graduation information

Graduation

We’re looking forward to seeing you at graduation this year!

Our ceremonies take place at Norwich City Football Ground, Carrow Road, NR1 1JE, on Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 July. We’ve set out information below to help you and your guests plan for the day, but if you have any other questions, email: graduation@norwichuni.ac.uk.

See the table below for when individual courses are graduating. If you have been awarded a Diploma in Creative Computing or Creative Professional Development, please attend the ceremony with your main degree course. We expect the ceremonies to last around one and a half hours each.

Which students are invited to the graduation celebrations this year?

  • Undergraduates who qualify in July this year or who qualified in September 2024; and
  • MA students who qualified in September 2024, and MArch students who qualify this year.

If you are an undergraduate student and you don’t pass one or both of your Year 3 units, you won’t be able to graduate with an Honours degree in July 2025, but you can still qualify for a Diploma of Higher Education and we’ll invite you to graduation this year in respect of this.

If the assessment board offers you a resubmission opportunity over the summer, and you go on to pass both your Year 3 units, you would qualify for an Honours degree. In this situation, we would invite you to attend graduation again in 2026, even if you attended in 2025.

Current MA students, due to complete their awards later this summer, will be invited to graduation 2026.

What are the arrangements for ticketing, and how many guests can I bring?

The University is registering students to attend graduation through an Evision task which will open at 12 noon on Monday 28 April, and tickets are booked and issued by Norwich City Football Club (NCFC).

Once you’ve completed the Evision task, you’ll receive a link to buy tickets from Norwich City’s website. Please note that to book tickets, you’ll need to register on the Norwich City website. The information you provide when you book tickets will not be used for anything other than your graduation ceremony, unless you specifically give consent to be contacted about other events.

PLEASE NOTE: From Friday 30 May, you’ll only be able to book tickets by phone, as online ticketing will end at 5pm on Thursday 29 May. To book tickets by phone, call Norwich City Football Club on 01603 721902, then press Option 4. Email carrowroadevents@canaries.co.uk if you have any questions about phone bookings.

You can bring up to six guests with you to your graduation celebration, and you’ll receive a unique promo code which will allow you to book the first two guest tickets free of charge. After your free tickets, any further guest tickets you wish to buy will be charged at £10. You won’t need to book a ticket for yourself.

When you book your tickets, you’ll be able to select your guest seats, so if you’d like your guests to be seated together it’s best to book all your tickets at once. If you’re booking online, you can also return to the NCFC website to buy additional tickets later. Your promo code can only be used once, so even if you’re not sure who’s coming with you to graduation, it’s best to book both free tickets. Please note that the website will automatically apply a £1 booking fee to each transaction. This will disappear when you apply your promo code in the checkout section, but if you return to buy additional tickets the £1 booking fee will be applied.

If your guests require any special arrangements, including accessible parking, you can discuss this directly with Norwich City and their website will provide information on how to contact them. It’s very important that you do this when you buy your tickets as seating for guests with reduced mobility and disabled parking spaces are limited in number.

If you require additional support for yourself, please let the Graduation Office know by emailing graduation@norwichuni.ac.uk

The registration task and ticketing will be open until the end of the day on Monday 7 July; after this date you will no longer be able to register to attend or book guest tickets.

How do I get to the football ground? Is there car parking?

Norwich City’s ground is in central Norwich, about 10 minutes’ walk from Norwich railway station and about 15 minutes’ walk from the centre of Norwich.

If you want to use public transport to get to Carrow Road, Konect Buses run service number 35 – ‘Canary Konect’ – which connects Norwich International Airport, the centre of the city (including the railway station) and the football ground. Click below for more details:

https://www.konectbus.co.uk/35

Free parking is also available at the football ground for your graduation celebration. When you arrive at the ground, a steward will give you a timed parking permit to display in your car, depending on the time of your ceremony:

Tuesday 15 July

Ceremony time        Parking permit duration

11am                        9am-2pm

3.30pm                     2pm-8pm

Wednesday 16 July

Ceremony time        Parking permit duration

11am                        9am-2pm

3.30pm                     2pm-8pm

Car parking spaces at the football ground are limited, so you may wish to make alternative arrangements to travel to graduation.

If you are travelling internationally you can fly into Norwich Airport (usually via Amsterdam). From there it’s a short bus ride or drive into the city centre.

The nearest large international airport is London Stansted and information about travelling to and from the airport can be found on their website:

Public transport to Norwich and car hire are also available from the other major London airports and further information can be found on their websites:

Can babies and children attend my graduation celebration?

Yes. Children and babies aged 2 and under won’t need a ticket of their own but will need to sit on the lap of the guest accompanying them or in a pushchair. Children aged 3 and over need their own guest ticket and seat. Do bear in mind that graduation ceremonies can be long and uninteresting for young children!

Will refreshments be available at the football ground?

There will be kiosks at the football ground where refreshments will be available for purchase before the ceremonies.

The Lion and Castle pub, located at the football ground, will also be open on graduation days and will be serving a selection of breakfast items in the mornings, as well as light bites throughout the day.

Are you streaming the graduation celebrations?

Yes. We’ll send on the YouTube links when we have them. Please also see ‘Will you take any photos at the celebrations, and how do you use publicity of the event?’ below.

Do I have to wear a gown, hood and cap?

Yes – you’ll need to hire them in advance from our official gownmakers Ede and Ravenscroft through their website: www.edeandravenscroft.com.  You can hire your gown, hood and cap from Monday 28 April.

Ede and Ravenscroft will be located at Carrow Road on the day of your graduation so that you can pick up your gown, hood and cap. The Ede and Ravenscroft team will also help you put these on correctly. You can collect your gown and have your photographs taken by Ede and Ravenscroft at any time during the day of your graduation, but please remember that if you’re parking at the football ground, you need to keep within the time limits of your permit – see above.

If you come to your graduation celebration without a gown, or if you are wearing clothes which the graduation ushers don’t consider appropriate to the occasion, you may not be able to cross the stage in recognition of your award. Please note too that if you choose to use a different supplier for your gown, you are very unlikely to receive a gown, hood and cap which have the correct specifications.

If you feel that meeting the cost of gown hire will be very difficult for you, you can apply for hardship funding. More details about this are below.

What will my gown, hood and cap look like?

For recipients of our degrees and awards, the gown and cap are black, and the hood is pale grey lined in light blue with gold ribbon.

Is there any financial help available to attend graduation?

Yes – you can apply to the University for funding for the hire of your gown if you feel that meeting this cost will otherwise be difficult for you.

The fund is strictly limited, and you must be eligible to graduate at a ceremony in July 2025.

You can apply regardless of any previous funding you have received.

Applications will be considered on the basis of a personal statement and by assessing bank statements. Applicants with significant balances and/or clear evidence of substantial or regular income are not likely to be successful.

If your application is successful, we’ll give you an individual code for you to book a gown free of charge from our suppliers, Ede and Ravenscroft.

PLEASE NOTE: If you apply for this funding, please don’t book a gown before we have told you the outcome of your application.

You can apply for funding from Monday 28 April by clicking on the link to the VLE below:

Graduation 2025 Financial Support Scheme

The closing date for applications to the fund is 5pm on Friday 30 May. We’ll let you know the outcome of your application by 5pm on Friday 13 June at the latest.

If you have any queries, email student.finance@norwichuni.ac.uk.

What are the arrangements for graduation photography?

Ede and Ravenscroft, our robemakers, are providing a photography service at the football ground. You can order photos in advance or on the day, and there’s more information about what they offer on their website: www.edeandravenscroft.com.

Ede and Ravenscroft will also take a photo of you when you cross the stage at your graduation. These photos will be available to purchase on the day, and online afterwards.

What happens if I arrive late for graduation?

Our advice is: don’t be late!

If you arrive late, you may not be able to cross the stage in recognition of your award. Make sure you allow enough time for travel, car parking, gown collection and photography and remember there may be queues on the day.

Please note that we ask all students and guests to be seated 15 minutes before the ceremony start time to ensure a prompt start.

What happens if I still owe money to the University at the time of my graduation celebration?

If you have any outstanding debts to the University, you must pay them or we may not allow you to attend your graduation celebration.

How can I find accommodation for my guests?

The Visit Norwich website has links to a wide range of places to stay in the area. Unfortunately we can’t offer recommendations or endorsements for accommodation, so check carefully before making any bookings.

Will you take any photos at the celebrations, and how do you use publicity of the event?

Ede and Ravenscroft will take graduation photographs, and photographers from the press and the University will take group and individual photos at graduation. These will be kept indefinitely as a record of the event and may be used in future marketing materials. Clips of films will be used in news and promotional materials by the press and the University for marketing purposes. The footage of the ceremonies livestreamed to our YouTube channel and our website will be available to view for the foreseeable future.

If you don’t want to appear in these films and photos, email graduation@norwichuni.ac.uk by the end of the day on Monday 7 July so that we have time to put in place any alternative arrangements for you.

When will I receive my award certificate?

Certificates will be sent out in the week of 18 August. If you have any queries in the meantime, email registry@norwichuni.ac.uk.

Can I stay in touch with the University after I graduate?

Yes. All ex-students automatically become members of our alumni network, and the Alumni office will have a stand at the football ground throughout the graduation celebrations in July. The network is here to offer support and guidance on whatever graduates decide to do next as well as bringing them back into contact with friends and lecturers from their time studying here. Click on https://norwichuni.ac.uk/alumni/ for more information.
