Norwich Graduates announced winners in Global Creative Graduate Showcase 2024
Two Norwich graduates have been awarded the highest accolade in Arts Thread Global Creative Graduate Showcase 2024
Modified:
The Global Creative Graduate Showcase, a nonprofit organisation created by Arts Thread, is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate art and design disciplines for those that have graduated between September 2023 and August 2024.
The competition saw over 5000 graduating students from across the world submit their work for consideration by 225 industry judges. Of these, 635 graduates were shortlisted across several categories, so to be announced as one of the winners is a huge achievement.
Winners were announced in a variety of categories, Fashion, Accessories and Textiles. Digital, Visual Communication and Film, Product, Architecture and Interiors and Fine Art, Photography, Craft and Jewellery. Both winners from Norwich University of the Arts were included in the Digital, Visual Communication and Film category. Dee McGilvray was awarded the Packaging Design prize for her project Sensi, and Gosha Maslovskis was announced as a joint winner of the Typography category for his work Hiding in Plain Type. Further details about both winners’ projects can be found below.
All winners will have their work showcased on both Arts Thread and Google Arts & Culture. The winners will also receive a year’s free subscription to the Arts Thread Foundry, a new initiative due to launch later this year that helps artists protect their intellectual property and monetise their work.
Dee McGilvray, BA (Hons) Graphic Design – ‘Sensi’
‘Sensi is a Cabernet Sauvignon by Andrea Bocelli, an Italian classical singer who has been blind since a child. The pack and brand world create a tactile and sensory experience using braille on pack and senses such as touch and hearing in the outer brand identity. A pairing of great taste in music and the finest wine.’
Gosha Maslovskis, BA (Hons) Graphic Communication – ‘Hiding in Plain Type’
‘Today, microplastics can be found in our food, drinks, and air. Sometimes microplastics can be so small they are practically invisible to the naked eye. In order to help tackle this issue, we need to start raising awareness. Hiding in Plain type is a typographically led campaign that uses a Google variable typeface to highlight the widespread presence of microplastics in our day-to-day lives and uses poetry to help raise awareness.’
